Being one the youngest radio presenters in the country at 16, different cover shows led to presenting the weekday evening show for nearly 2 years. It was whilst here a radio agency, USP, picked Gavin up describing him as 'The UK's most exciting emerging radio talent'.
He delivered Ten 17 their best ever evening listening figures, (hours & people). Increased, sustained, and growing audience figures are quite rare for evening shows which meant the show devloped a cult following locally. On the show Gavin interviewed celebrities such as Natalie Imbruglia and S Club 7, and also had comedy sketches, features and competitions.
Produced and presented live roadshows such as “Ten 17’s Big Night Out featuring The Full Monty” in front of 400 people and hosted the On-Air charity auction from group network centre in Southend for the radio station's charity.
Also Gavin conducted interviews, live reports and produced local related packages for The Daytime Show and other shows on the station.
Ten 17 was part of Essex Radio and broadcast over East Herts. and West Essex from studios in Harlow, playing songs from the 80s 90s, aimed at 24-44 year olds.
From The Audio Archive..... Show Openers
When Gavin was a young little 18 year old and presented the evening show
on Ten 17 in Essex. Every week night at 6.45 was a news show called 'The
Update'. which was fifteen minutes long from Southend, which meant he
had 15 minutes in the studio before his show started at 7, and fifteen minutes to stack up a whole load of jingles!
These are some of those Opener links that have been found locked away
in a vault. Yes he sound stupid but he was young!
